STRESS regulation through Somatic Experiencing

Do you recognize any of this?

  • Feeling constantly uneasy or "on guard"
  • Sleep difficulties or restlessness
  • Fatigue without feeling refreshed
  • Physical tension you can’t release
  • A sense of being “stuck” in your body

As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and physiotherapist, I offer special hands-on sessions on a treatment table, using gentle, attentive touch to help your nervous system return to its natural balance. Sessions are conducted fully clothed in a calm, safe space, which can be a first step to releasing stress and finding deep calm.

As a licensed Danish physiotherapist, you may receive reimbursement from your private insurance for this type of treatment.

Feel free to contact me to schedule a session or learn more.

Somatic Experiencing Traumahealing

Even smaller experiences that made you feel uncomfortable or were you felt that your boundaries have been crossed can leave a mark, especially if support or understanding was absent afterward. Therefore, it is important to meet both major and minor traumas with respect and care.

Possible symptoms of sexual trauma:

  • Physical: Pain during sex, lack of desire, or unexplained body tension.
  • Emotional: Shame, anxiety, numbness, or flashbacks.
  • Relational: Difficulty with intimacy, avoiding sexual situations, or trouble setting boundaries.

SE (Somatic Experiencing) is a gentle therapy helping the body release trauma-related tension through conversation and body-focused awareness. If you have questions or are curious, it is completely natural to reach out – even small steps can make a big difference.

What is Trauma?

Trauma refers to a distressing or harmful experience that an individual has endured, which can have profound negative effects on their psychological and emotional health. Traumatic events can take various forms, including:

  1. Single events: Such as a car accident, a medical procedure, a violent assault, or a natural disaster.
  2. Long-term stressors: These may involve repeated physical or emotional abuse, sexual assault, neglect, or prolonged threats such as domestic violence or war.

Traumatic experiences can lead to a variety of symptoms that may impair the individual's daily functioning, including:

  • Emotional symptoms: Intense fear, depression, guilt, anger, or emotional numbness.
  • Behavioral symptoms: Withdrawal from others, increased alcohol or drug use, self-harming behaviors, or aggression.
  • Physical symptoms: Sleep disturbances, difficulty concentrating, increased irritability, physical complaints without discernible medical cause.

It is important to emphasize that trauma is an individual experience, and not all individuals who experience similar events will exhibit the same reactions or symptoms. The effects of trauma can also vary over time, with some individuals developing traumatic symptoms years after the event.

What is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a form of trauma therapy developed by Dr. Peter Levine. SE focuses on how traumatic experiences affect the body and how these effects can be alleviated through focused attention and regulation.

According to the Somatic Experiencing theory, trauma arises when the body is unable to process traumatic experiences due to a disruption in its natural regulatory mechanisms. When an individual is exposed to a traumatic event, the body may enter a state of hyper-arousal or immobilization. This can lead to a blockade of the body's natural healing process, where the physiological remnants of trauma are held in the body, resulting in symptoms such as hyper-arousal, hypo-arousal, or dissociation.

Through restoring a sense of safety in the body and gradually exploring and discharging stored physiological energy, Somatic Experiencing therapy aims to release these blockades and restore the body's natural regulation of the nervous system, thus alleviating traumatic symptoms.
